President - Nambour Ladies Golf Club

Despite our club being closed for 2 weeks this past year we have been extremely lucky to have played uninterrupted with covid running rampant through some other states seeing their golf courses closed for months.

Due to diligent management we have watched our club continue to improve & grow to new heights. The changes we have witnessed have been nothing short of amazing considering where we were last year. New cart paths, improved 18th fairway, lopped trees, newly grassed tees, more carts & we haven’t finished yet.

Many events in our calendar this year were not well supported by many clubs due to the covid threat. However, our Nambour Ladies did participate in the annual matchplay pennants & performed well. Due to lack of support we decided to not participate in the Nett Pennant (Open Day) competition in 2021 instead we decided to once again have an Invitation Day but in a 4 person ambrose format which was very successful. We even had a mention at the latest District meeting where the President considered our decision to be a very innovative move. We saw our Zone & District amalgamate this year too which should really streamline events in the future.

SCBDWGA have also decided our Nett Pennant Open Days will probably take a different format next year. Each club will conduct their own Open Day event with just their own members & submit the results to the district body. They consider this would be more inclusive of all clubs big & small. Details will be confirmed later this year.

Our Cancer Charity Day on September 11th was another great success. We had our most successful day ever & raised almost $3,000 for Nambour General Hospital. This was only possible thanks to all who played on the day & our wonderful sponsors. Ken & Marls Best were our main sponsors but the generosity of our members & other sponsors was incredible.

You only have to look around the course to see how much Andy & his team have achieved this past year. We also saw Richard Meiers, Kim Evans, Peter Thorn & Tom Emery giving up much of their time to water the tees twice weekly which has made a big difference too. Where would we be without our volunteers.

Joan, Del, Debbie, Julie & Barry Lees have been a great support keeping the gardens in order. Andy has a new plan to manage the gardens in the near future with less ‘heavy work’ from our ladies which will be a great bonus.

Amanda has taken over our catering this year & I think everyone will agree her food has been really good. The cleaning has also stepped up a notch with the addition of Julie over the past few months.

It’s thanks to Steve, Nigel, Kynan, Mickey, Morgan, Abby, President Peter & his committee that we see all these improvements taking place just for the benefit of our club & members. Liddy who gives up so much time to help out in the office & do our ladies results every Thursday plus her club secretary duties inspires all of us.

Lastly my committee, another year has almost passed by & we are already planning next year’s events & strategies. You have all been so supportive it’s been a pleasure once again to be President at Nambour.

I look forward immensely to watch our club grow & prosper in 2022.
