President Gail summarised the year so well in her report to the ladies.
27th OCTOBER, 2016
We have had an amazing year this year and seen incredible changes at our club. So many people are responsible for the current success and improvement of our club.
Although our numbers may be small , we ladies have always contributed to the success of our club. We still represent Nambour at every opportunity in away games and pennants and I thank all the ladies for their participation. Our hosted events were also very successful and ably supported by our members who baked, worked or donated something. Thanks to Sandy & Heather for running our raffles at our hosted events and every Thursday for the last 2 years, we really appreciate your time and efforts.
Our Cancer Charity Day in 2015 was such a success because for the first time it was held on a public holiday. We wanted to repeat that performance in 2016. Unfortunately our event was rained out that Labour day weekend and had to be postponed to a later date. Even though it wasn’t a public holiday we were able to make up any shortfall by running a silent auction prior to the event. In doing so we were able to donate a healthy $1365 to QIMR Berghoffer in Brisbane. Thank you to everyone who supported this event by playing, buying raffle tickets, bidding in the auction, donated items, sponsored or worked. You are amazing.
Starting at the top of the heap with Steve and Nigel, thanks for all your support during the year. I know we ladies test your endurance sometimes but I know you really love us!!!!
Our club committee ably lead by Peter Black sure have achieved what they set out to do in 2016. We have seen the new cart shed completed , cart paths improved, purchase of even more carts, the removal of many troublesome trees, new turf in places and a new bridge on the 17th hole just to name a few changes and improvements. I must mention though, that most successful golf courses have amazing volunteers and our Nambour Course is one. I know there are many volunteers but Peter Hughes and Ron Newton quickly come to mind, they always seem to be out on the course doing something. Plus, a big plus, is our exceptional green staff, what a top job they have done.
Our ladies committee have also done a great job this year with Cal at the helm. Cal has worn many hats in 2016, Club Captain, Ladies Captain, District Delegate, Web Administrator for the District and Zone Delegate. Thanks for your efforts Cal and your committee. Once more my gardening buddies Joan and Del have been a great support. Maybe leading up to Christmas as the ladies events quieten down we may be able to finish off a few jobs before the heat of summer. Also, thanks to Liddy for taking the pressure off the ladies committee by entering all the results each week on the computer and posting the time sheets.
I would like to make special mention of Marea Jolly this year as she is such a stalwart of the ladies club. A silent achiever. No-one ever wants the job of secretary but Marea not only does it beautifully she is always there to lend a hand anywhere, anytime and does just a terrific job co-ordinating our sponsors.
I feel we ladies have all groomed Kynan and Jake extremely well this year and we look forward to their continued support next year. Thanks to Leonie too, she never seems to forget anyones name (or what they drink for that matter) and really does keep Everything spick and span. Many thanks to Gus as well for keeping the home fires burning providing meals for us which was quite difficult at times while working another job.
Congratulations to all those ladies who won events this year, especially our Weekday Pennant Team. A great effort for our small club and with so much competition out there as well.
My thanks to the outgoing committee of 2016, your commitment to our ladies golf has been outstanding.
