INAUGURAL VETS AMBROSE CHAMPIONSHIP

The brainchild of the Nambour Vets (Richard Smith the driver), the inaugural Sunshine Coast District Ambrose Championship was a huge hit, with a large field of players from 9 clubs contesting.

Clubs could nominate up to 3 teams of four players for the Championship. Handicaps registered from 6 through to 33! The nine clubs represented were Nambour (of course), Pelican Waters, Cooroy, Gympie, Mt Coolum, Caloundra, Maroochy River, Noosa and Headland. Team handicaps (1/8 of aggregate handicaps) ranged from just 4.125 through to 12.5.

Naturally, sad tales of missed opportunities abounded during the lunch served to each table while scores were checked and displayed on the whiteboard - in Artie's inimitable and precise style! But the eventual winners, a team Nigel Moody, Archi Baxter, Peter Wolfenden and Glen Hall from Mt Coolum, scored a 9 under par gross.
Their handicap of 8.25 (net 50.75 had them just pip the Cooroy team of Rodney Booth, Ian Mulhall, N. Smith and A. Dick on 50.875 (Gross 73).

A Nambour team brought up third place!

All the talk I heard was about looking forward to the same Championship again next year, with Nambour again hosting! Congratulations to the Vets and their Committee on the success of this new event on the District Vets Calendar.
