GREENS REPORT JULY 21

GREENS:

This month we have received more rain than we hoped for, causing some slight disease throughout. With wet and cold temperatures overnight fairways had seen dollar spot arise while some 328 greens had black helminthosporium (leaf disease).

All of these areas have been treated as well as a follow up application this week, and at this time of the year there are a few of these greens that settle in nearly complete shade causing these diseases to arise. However, we are nearly out of trouble with renovations and warmer days coming in just over a month.

With the greens that are suffering the worst from the wet/shade, we have punched holes and lightly top dresses on greens 7, 15, and 18.

With other areas such as tees that have also suffered from shade and divot wear from large numbers of weekly golfers, we will be re-surfacing these tees with new turf over the next months of July and August. These tees will be noted in next month’s report.

Our new Toro fairway mower will be arriving this month, ready in time for spring and summer, this has replaced our john Deere fairway mower that was due for trade in. We look forward to keeping the quality of the fairways up with this new mower.

The boys have added a small step up (stairs) to the 14th tee, and we will also be adding another step to the 9th tee steps.

All areas such as tees, green surrounds and fairways have had fertiliser applications with insect and fungicide applications done due to bad and favourable weather for these issues.

Large projects have taken place such as work on the 18th bare patches; this has been trialled with using a jack hammer and excavator to remove hard rock and clay that has caused these areas over the past years. With great results so far from removing the rock and soil, we have added in new profile, and new grass will be laid towards the end of the month. These areas on 18 will remain roped off and G.U.R marked to other areas on the fairway until finished.

Once this fairway has been completed and confirmed that the turf and areas have held up through a good season, we will continue this process to other bare areas on fairways such as the entrance of the 9th fairway, and I am confident that we can have all fairways in excellent condition in the near future.
